Crazy weather we’ve had the past couple of days here in Spartanburg. It was seventy three degrees one week from Christmas in South Carolina and snowing in Las Vegas.

I’ve been giving the squirrels in the backyard peanuts and apples lately. It’s cold out there! He’s tough to find, but he’s in this picture.

For those of you unfamiliar with C-SPAN (Wikipedia), it’s a pretty amazing tool given to everyone for free. C-SPAN is funded by Cable and Satellite operators and provides round-the-clock coverage of both houses of Congress. They brought the bus to the Spartanburg County Library Headquarters today, so I had to stop by and check it out.

During the debates, their coverage was fantastic since they show a split-screen the entire time with no commentary from the “talking heads.” Check them out sometime or follow them on Twitter.

It’s nice to travel, but it’s always nicer to come back home. I spent most of today catching up on sleep which I didn’t get much of while in California.

Over at Calculated Risk, there’s a post about hotel occupancy rates and how they’ve declined recently. Bad news for the hotels, good news for the casual traveler! I’m writing this post from hotel480 in San Francisco, where I got an amazing rate on Priceline.com. I came to California for business, but with a rate like this one, I stayed for the weekend. If you’ve been thinking about some weekend trips, go for it!
